The Leeds Poverty Truth Commission
In 2018 AWL were contacted by Daniel Edmiston who is a Lecturer in Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Leeds and author of the important and brilliantly written book Welfare, Inequality and Social Citizenship: Deprivation and Affluence in Austerity Britain
Daniel was working on a project with the Leeds Poverty Truth Commission to celebrate their achievements and to share lessons to improve the representation of people affected by poverty in public and political life. The aim was to co-produce a range of resources and materials to amplify the voices and experiences of citizens living in poverty, build the capacity of Leeds Poverty Truth, and to provide recommendations to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation for similar initiatives across the country. We worked closely with Daniel and Leeds Poverty Truth to co-create a series of posters and animations to help achieve this aim.
The Cartoons
